Drill of the Month
MEGA student: Jordan Stansbury
Key factors
Starting position: The starting position will depend on where the ball is and which side it has been delivered from.
Set position: Tall as possible, confident and sideways on.
Assess the flight and pace of the ball: If the cross is high, move gradually in line so you are in a good position to make a claim. If its low, win the race to the ball or cover the near post.
Make a decision: Come or stay?
Communicate decision: “Keepers” or “away”. Loud and as early as possible so defenders can react accordingly.
If coming, make next decision: Catch, punch or parry. Catch if possible, punch if crowded out, parry with fingers on one hand if stretching.
Organisation:
2 Goalkeepers, 2×2, 3×3, 4×4 players
Pitch size depends on number of players
2 wide channels on either side of the pitch from where unopposed crosses are delivered.
Gk passes out from the back, connect 3 passes and play out to the channel for balls to be crossed.
